If they don’t mind the venue, jazz fans may want to mark their calendars. The 40th anniversary of the city’s Office of Cultural Affairs will be celebrated with a jazz concert and party on May 4 at the Oakland Cemetery.
According to Camille Russell, Director of the Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs, the event will also recognize former Atlanta Mayor Maynard Jackson, founder of the Office of Cultural Affairs and the Atlanta Jazz Festival.
Along with Jackson, other notables buried in Oakland include former mayor Ivan Allen Jr., championship golfer Bobby Jones, and “Gone With The Wind” author Margaret Mitchell.
