Buckhead is the ultimate city within a city! Home to some 43 neighborhoods all by itself, its boundaries cover more housing, retail, and “playtime” venues than any other part of Atlanta — by far! Buckhead is so desirable an area that its boundaries are difficult to pin down, since so many Atlanta neighborhoods have declared themselves as being part of it. Eight zip codes are wholly or partially composed of parts of the Buckhead area.
To get a sense of Buckhead’s sheer size and variety, consider the fact that it contains 17 districts within its boundaries, each with its own focus, residents, and targeted visitors. Here are just a few:
The Atlanta Decorative Arts Center has been at the heart of the Southeastern interior design trade since the early 1960s, with scores of showrooms offering top-name lines of furniture, fabrics, kitchen and bath products, lighting, accessories, and floor and wall coverings. It is a wholesale facility, open primarily to design professionals and their clients, but occasional sales and seminars are open to the public. ADAC’s main showrooms are at 351 Peachtree Hills Ave., Atlanta, Georgia 30305
Bennett Street is considered by many to be one of the best art districts in the Southeast! Evolving from a warehouse district, Bennett District now contains a fascinating jumble of antique shops, galleries, studios, and restaurants. It is worth at least half a day of browsing, and a short walk or drive north is an ideal lunch or dinner refreshment spot: Cafe Sunflower. Also within walking distance are restaurants like Houston’s and Benihana.

Traditionally, Buckhead’s East Village is a triangle-bound by Peachtree Road on the north and west, Piedmont Road on the east and Peachtree Avenue on the south. Spreading out from its long-time commercial core along Peachtree Road, “the village” has grown to include formerly residential streets that now house businesses and restaurants in tree-shaded cottages that once were homes of the Shadowlawn subdivision. The Village has been undergoing drastic changes, with developers leveling the party powerhouse for a more Rodeo Drive atmosphere. We’ll see how it all turns out. In the meantime, you can view a comprehensive list provided www.buckhead.org, which combines both community and business resources for the area in one convenient, complete, and easy-to-use format.
In South Buckhead — or SOBO, you will find yet another great place to knock yourself out visiting great design shops and galleries. The Miami Circle Design District (no, it has nothing to do with Miami Beach — it is named after an early tenant, the Miami Window Company) began to develop as a design district in the ’70’s and now has more than 70 shops featuring art, antiques, furnishings, lighting — too many to list! Also here is one of Atlanta’s premiere spots for casual dining: Eclipse di Luna. And further West, just above Midtown, is Home Park, home to Atlantic Station, which reclaims the old “brownfield” Atlanta Steel Works and is a model of intown re-development. The Southeast’s only Ikea is here in Atlanta Georgia’s Midtown!
Peachtree Road, which officially starts when Peachtree Street and West Peachtree Street merge (near 17th street), follows an old Indian trail as it winds its way north through Buckhead. Once a street of grand homes, it now is the site of Buckhead apartments, condos, shopping, office towers — everything but those early mansions. Yet one remains: the Randolph-Lucas house at the intersection of Peachtree and Lindbergh drive. Check out this home for a break from the great shopping you will find up and down the road.
The West Village is one of Atlanta’s trendiest shopping neighborhoods. Located just west of Peachtree Road and Roswell Road, between West Paces Ferry Road and East Andrews Drive, the West Village offers a vast array of quaint and unusually eclectic shops, galleries, restaurants and businesses. It is also home to the Atlanta History Center
And these are just a few of the great areas in Buckhead! Each of the individual neighborhoods have interesting and characteristic housing, from the Neel Reid mansions in the West Village to the comfortable Craftsman bungalows of Peachtree Hills. Shopping abounds with two regional shopping malls: Lenox Square and Phipps Plaza. Great dining awaits you in scores of restaurants. All are well worth a driving tour if you are interested in Real estate in Atlanta. Think you’re ready to make the move to Buckhead?
